The idea of establishing a dental school at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was conceived during the tenure of the late Prof. Kwesi Andam as the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Discussions on collaboration between the College of Health Sciences (CoHS), and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) was initiated by the Foundation Provost of the CoHS Prof. Kwame Sarpong.
A formal presentation of the establishment of the dental school was made to the KATH Board by the Chief Administrator, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare.The initial discussion document on the proposed Dental School was developed by a team comprising, the Provost, Prof. Peter Donkor, Prof. Tsiri Agbenyega, Dr. G. A. Ankrah, Dr. P E. Karikari and. Subsequently, a four member committee, chaired by Prof. A. Abaitey was charged by the CoHS Academic Board to refine the document for consideration by the Board of the CoHS. Other members of the committee were Prof. Peter Donkor, Drs. P.E.Karikari and E.N.L. Browne.
